There is a right, and a wrong way. Like any other skill, you can learn in an efficient way, and in a just plain silly way. Imagine you are learning to ride a bike. Would you spend hours trying to "trick out" your bike, adding modifications that should make it easier to ride, or do you just get up, try, fall, and try again?
A lot of the same applies for drumming. On this site, I'm going to share a couple secrets with you on learning drums. First off, the best way to learn, is by playing. A famous jazz guitarist named Pat Metheny once said that "An hour on the gig is like seven hours in the practice room" or something like that. Meaning, you learn by experience. So how do you do that? Most drum teachers will sit you in front of boring exercises, hours of discourse on technique, and useless beginner books.
